Have you seen a termite queen before?

That’s her in the video…

As you can see she is completely immobile. That big pulsating blob is her lower abdomen which is so full of eggs it makes it impossible for her to move….

All she can do is lay eggs, sweat and wait for her babies to grow big enough to look after..

Termite workers treat their queen, like a queen. As she can’t move they do everything for her including licking the sweat from her body to clean her.

Right now she is laying up to 3 eggs a second… Which means she’s creating over 30,000 new termites every day…

And queens can live for 20 years (one average… some can live up to 50!)…

So that’s over 1 million new termites every year times twenty… A lot of termites!

Which is why killing termites on sight doesn’t make the slightest difference. A termite queen can make a new army in a matter of hours.

The only way to get rid of termites is to hunt down the nest and kill the queen..

As 2 in every 3 Australian homes suffer from a termite problem it is quite possible there is a termite queen hiding somewhere in your house…
