TERMITE TREATMENT AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA

Ask any home or business owner what they wish they did differently with regards to their ongoing efforts to stem a termite infestation and we expect that they will say that they would have secured regular professional inspections. Termite prevention is a lot easier than termite elimination. Once pests find a way onto your property they can be notoriously difficult to get rid of. Fortunately, there are ways to achieve great results even after the fact. But, if you are someone who believes in taking proactive steps to prevent an infestation, then you’ve come to the right place.

TYPES OF TERMITE TREATMENT

If a termite inspection shows signs of termite activity in your home you need to act as quickly as possible to prevent further damage to your home. There are many different ‘brands’ and variations of a termite treatment but essentially there are 2 types. The first type of treatment is a termite baiting system. The second type is a chemical subfloor treatment. All of our chemical treatments and baiting systems use chemicals which are only harmful to termites. They are safe for humans, pets and other wildlife.

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO TREAT TERMITES IN DUBBO

Termites are one of the biggest threats that Australian property owners face. If they get into a building, they can cause immense damage that costs a lot to repair and may even make a building beyond repair. Termite damage is not covered by buildings insurance and so the cost of repairs falls wholly on the property owner. It’s vital, therefore, that you do all you can to prevent termites from getting into your property or, if they’re already there, take swift action to get rid of them. Fortunately, we have various methods of effective treatment for termites.

EFFECTIVE TERMITE TREATMENT IN DUBBO

Some modern homes are built with steel or treated timbers to create roofs and wall frames that are termite resistant. Even here, however, there are other parts of the building that are open to termite attack and so action still needs to be taken. Treatment for termite problem tends to vary depending on whether the problem is already established or not. These termite treatments include:

  • Physical termite barriers formed from granulated rock or stainless steel mesh that are placed within the exterior walls or in the ground around the building’s perimeter. Termites are unable to get through these barriers and so cannot gain access to the property.
  • Chemical termite barriers that are placed around the property and prevent termites from moving through them. A trench is dug around the property, about 15 cm wide and 30 cm deep starting 5 cm below the top of the footings. A non-repellent insecticide is applied to the trench and then to the soil as it is backfilled. Any paths or slabs that cross the line of the trench have the same insecticide injected into small, drilled holes. The aim is to have a continuous barrier that termites cannot cross. These barriers require annual replenishment and inspection but can be effective for 5-8 years.
  • Termite baiting systems are more appropriate where there is already a termite infestation. Baiting stations are placed at intervals around the property and contain food, typically wood, that is treated with the same non-repellent insecticide as chemical barriers. The insecticide is not harmful to humans or pets but is slow acting, usually taking 8-21 days to kill termites. During this time, they will have transferred the poison to other termites in the nest so that, eventually, the whole colony is eradicated.

ENSURING TERMITE CONTROL IS FULLY EFFECTIVE

Since the aim is to eliminate the termite problem for good, we may use a combination of termite treatments to complete the job. A baiting system will kill any termites that are already in and around the building while barrier systems will prevent further access. Although not itself a treatment, a regular termite inspection is an essential part of the treatment process. It will ensure protection is working, identify if any further problems are present and enable weaknesses in the defences to be recognised and resolved. Along with the termite treatments, we give advice on how to prevent future infestations, which can often be achieved by general tidiness and maintenance. As a result, future problems and the need for treatment will be significantly reduced.

TERMITE EXTERMINATION

Whether you are planning on buying a property, renovating your current home, or simply determined to get to the bottom of the pest problem you have noticed, termite extermination may be the ideal way to get the peace of mind that you hope for. More than 30 per cent of properties in Australia have a termite presence, which means that either your home or some of your neighbours have likely already been infiltrated. Home security means so many different things and pest control is definitely one aspect of it.

PRE-CONSTRUCTION TERMITE TREATMENTS

We offer 2 main termite treatments for homes under construction. A chemical termite barrier can be applied prior to construction or even after construction has started. The chemicals can either kill termites or deter them and we’ll be delighted to advise you on the best solution for your project. A physical termite barrier is placed under the slab of your building. Termites are able to find their way through a hole just a couple of millimetres wide, so the barrier is laid and adhesive is used to seal the joints. Both solutions are attractive to potential buyers.

POST-CONSTRUCTION TERMITE TREATMENTS

Once your building is erected you obviously can’t put a physical barrier in place. Depending on the style of home you own, you can either use a chemical subfloor termite treatment or you can use a termite baiting system. The best choice for your building will largely depend on the way your home is constructed. If you would like to discuss the best option for your home or business, please call us on 02 6887 2825 and we’ll advise you on the right solution.

TERMITE CONTROL METHODS AND HOW TO MAKE THEM HAPPEN

The homeowner is not responsible for actually treating termites: this is not a do-it-yourself kind of thing. What the owner is responsible for is getting it done by a professional. So, the answer to the question, “How to treat termites?” is this: call an acknowledged expert and get them to do what is necessary.

There are various forms of treatment including termite bait, termite fumigation and liquid termiticide, each of which can be extremely effective. The baits are a slow-kill method involving attracting termites before killing them, while fumigation is a quicker method that uses gas and could be thought of as a more gung-ho approach. Liquid termiticide is injected into the soil around the property to reach subterranean termite colonies.

Which of these approaches is how to treat termites will be discussed between householder and practitioner to make the best choice for both the short and long term. The first step, though, is to get the assessment booked and carried out.

The cost of pest control largely depends on the amount of work that needs to be done and the equipment and materials that are to be used. These, in turn, are affected by the type of pest you have.
